SENASA establishes alliance with Blockchain platform for agro-industrial certification and traceability in Argentina

Argentina’s governmental regulatory body for agro-food certification has established an agreement with an important platform Blockchain to improve traceability in the field.

Argentina’s government body in charge of implementing national policies on food quality and safety, SENASA, established an alliance with Polaris Network to improve traceability and animal certification, according to a press release received today by Cointelegraph.

According to the press release received, the Morpheus.Network solution will allow, through Blockchain technology and with the support of IoT devices installed in tankers, to create a transparent and efficient platform to speed up the global supply chain.

„The collaboration with Polaris Network is the largest blockchain project with a government to date. With a $60 billion agricultural market in sight, the Morpheus.Network solution benefits 100,000 farmers immediately and generates cost savings of 25% to 30%,“ said Dan Weinberger, CEO of Morpheus.Network.

The pilot network developed by Polaris allows the pesticide to be delivered in bulk where they can track the product according to the regulations in force in the Latin American country, thanks to IoT devices placed in 400 trucks to transmit data and time readings, real-time geolocation and flow meter in trailers, while they are filled with glyphosate material.

When a change of route is perceived, the device sends a respective alert to SENASA, through data validated in real time by the blockchain platform.

With this automation, it is expected that at least 100,000 farmers will benefit from the technology by not having to perceive the pesticide in individual 20-liter plastic bags, which represents a cost saving as stated by the executive director of Morpheus.Network.

The cloud-based platform ensures the privacy and security of user data involved in the processes, allowing analytical support to ensure compliance, traceability, automation and profitability of the internal market valued at about $ 600 million.

The use of the Blockchain by the government agency is nothing new. Last October 2019, Cointelegraph highlighted that the National Service of Agrifood Health and Quality „SENASA“ incorporated the control of fresh citrus fruit exports through a version of the Computerized System of Citrus Traceability „SITC“, which includes the use of Blockchain technology to give greater security to the documents generated.

SENASA manages the data for the inspection of fresh citrus fruit exports from Argentina to the European Union, the United States, China, Mexico and South Korea, through the use of this decentralized platform.

Argentina is one of the countries with the highest GDP focused on agro-industrial production with almost 60 percent, so it has become one of the pioneers in the application of Blockchain technology in this sector.

Outstanding cases such as OpenVino in Mendoza or Agree Market, as well as the benefits of Microsoft’s ‚FarmsBeats‘ to promote agricultural developments in the South American country, are outstanding examples of the use of Blockchain technology in the field.
